A cool fall evening . . .

Waco has the unique ability to hold on to summer for as long as possible. Not to fault Waco by any stretch of the imagination, someone even made a movie about an endless summer, though Waco doesn't have the best surfing. Here in this great city we have little fall-esque teasers before we ever actually get fall. But based on the past two weeks, I'd say we can safely say that fall has arrived.

Last night was a wonderful fall evening, it was cool, crisp and fresh. The evening was perfectly complimented by great food and even better company. Our evening began with a warm cup of coffee at Common Grounds, one of my all time favorite local establishments. Followed by Bangkok Royal, another very cherished local restaurant. I ordered the usual . . . Panang Curry, by which I have yet to be disappointed in my many years of patronage. I wish I could remember the name of the particular variety of Pad (a Thai flat noodle, I think) that the beautiful lady sitting across from me ordered, either way it was delicious. The evening progressed to the Dancing Bear Pub, a favorite of the Blue Bike guys and many of our good friends. Sitting outside on a crisp fall evening sipping Shiner Bock Beer, enjoying great conversation and telling too many fishing stories put the polish on a perfect Waco evening.

Legit and Local, another part of what makes Waco what it is . . . Great.

Sure, there are a lot of definitions for what qualifies as greatness, but I have no desire to go into an exposition on the various individual requirements people might have for greatness. But I do want to discuss one of the aspects that make Waco such a great place to live . . . heck, a great place to visit. The multitude of local establishments is one of the most telling aspects of Waco's greatness, from restaurants to adult-beverage establishments, Waco has some of the best in Texas. Austin has always touted it's incredible Local spirit, but in a lot of ways Austin has lost what was so awesome about the town 10-20 years ago. Waco, however, has not. Waco has a lot of the same feel today what Austin had in it's heyday. In this blog a lot of what you will see in days to come are discussions of Blue Bike's favorite local locales. So stay tuned and support local business.

Night on the Downtown

Friday night a few friends and I decided to enjoy the burgeoning entertainment outlets that are popping up downtown. The four of us spent our time in the "entertainment district" of downtown Waco on Austin Ave. Our evening began at The Green Room Grille for a quick sipping of fine whiskeys. I had a Blanton's neat, which happens to be one of my favorite bourbons due to its buttery-smooth qualities and slight caramel and vanilla notes. The ladies had an Irish whiskey (the name of which I cannot remember) and seemed to thoroughly enjoy each sip. The Green Room has a very nice assortment of fine spirits (well done Davin). The time for our next adventure was drawing nigh, so Harry, from The Green Room, (one of the more colorful and recognizable characters of downtown) assumed his temporary post in the middle of Austin Avenue to blow his whistle and stop traffic for pedestrians walking from The Green Room to The Hippodrome.

We were off to The Waco Hippodrome to see the one-man-show, Defending the Caveman, thanks to Mr. Scott Baker. Though none of us knew what to expect, we ended up having a blast and laughed our posteriors off.

It is tough to go to The Green Room and not eat, so the fearless four ventured back across the street to eat . . . and have another drink . . . or two. We all ate until we were filled to the brim and totally satisfied with yet another enjoyable night on the downtown.

If you haven't been to The Green Room Grille or seen a play at the Waco Hippodrome recently then you are amiss. Go downtown and enjoy the life Waco has to offer.

For the Love of Waco

The content found in this blog doesn't have so much to do with "marketing," rather this blog is to highlight the experiences we have in Waco and the things we love (and sometimes don't love) in the heart of Texas. You will find a random assortment of discussions about restaurants, nightlife, conversations, coffee shops, bicycles and whatever else may pop into my head. I hope you enjoy it as much as Blue Bike enjoys Waco.
